An online exhibit created by Photography 2 & 3 students at Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts
This exhibit is inspired by the book Photography Changes Everything by Marvin Heiferman which was published by the Aperture Foundation. The students in Photography 2 & 3 classes read selected essays from this book in order to investigate photography’s impact on society. From “ Photography Changes Our Connection to Family History” to “Photography Changes the Way We Communicate”, we considered the many ways photography shapes our modern life. In the spirit of Steve Hoffenberg’s essay, “Photography Changes and Democratizes Visual Expression” we each looked through our own photographs currently on our phones, computers, and cameras to reflect on how these photographs, if placed in a different context, show how photography frames our experiences. After reading and sharing essays from the book, pairs of students worked together to create their own galleries around a theme of their choice. They worked as curators reviewing photographs of their classmates and acquiring those pieces that they felt were a good fit with their concepts. Links to student web pages are provided in the Galleries section of this site.
